author's note: This campaign is my attempt to give Mythic a proper shot. It took me a while to find my feet so Mythic veterans might notice a few errors but I eventually get the hang of it.

Wells and a mentor are in a quiet forest clearing, undergoing some combat training exercises. The mentor has found and captured a small, malevolent spirit from near by. Wells' is tasked with defeating it but finds themselves trembling in the face of even such a small, nearly harmless enemy.

Father Vat Zantho is the head priest of the local Laluna congregation. He is a towering Orc from Northern Wald. His skin is a dusty greenish grey and compliments the soft blue of the Lunian robes.
His height and tusks make for a mighty and intimidating sight, but it's quickly washed away after hearing his gentle, soothing voice. Thick with his northern accent.
He has served and taught at the sect for over forty years, and has watched Wells grow and learn the cleric craft. Now he is trying to build the young man's confidence in self defence before sending him out into the world. But it's proving harder than anticipated.
Wells tries to cast Smite, but their shivering is making it hard to aim.

The spell misses, a bright streak of light blue light strikes the ground but fizzles out before it could do any damage. Wells sighs pitifully.
"I don't think I'm capable of hurting anything, even monsters."
Father Zantho turns to him and puts a hand on his shoulder. "It's alright, we all have our strengths. I just need to know if you are able to defend yourself before sending you out into the field."
"Isn't it enough to simply block attacks? Must I bring harm?" He looks up to his mentor. Wells' shield spells and animal companion are effective, he's had a lot of experience honing those.
Vat sighs and thinks for a moment, considering the big, sad brown eyes of his trainee.

Trees bristle as Vat summons the winds from around them. Due to all the trees the effect isn't as strong as he would like but happily he sees the spirit woefully tumble back into the clearing regardless. Giving them some well needed space.
Angrily the spirit starts zooming back toward them. Wells uses this time to try cast Smite once more, now with intensified focus.

Just. Once more bright blue light strikes the ground in front of them, this time with a loud crack of thunder. It lands right in front of the spirit, causing it to run right into the blast.

With a shriek and a fizzle the spirit is smote from creation.
As the dust settles the two exhale with relief. Wells only gets a moment of peace before finding himself lifted by the large Orc's arms. He struggles to breathe through the affectionate squeeze and the divine shield, unused, fizzles away also.
"You did it boy!" The high priest shouts triumphantly, now gently releasing his student to the ground. "I knew you had it in you!"
Wells collects his breath for a second time, looking over the the black mark on the ground where the spirit once was. He protected himself and his beloved mentor but he doesn't feel good about erasing something from existence. Even if that thing only sought out to harm, maybe it was just misunderstood.
Vat sees his furrowed brow and takes Wells' shoulder in his hand once again. "It's never easy to value one life above another, you are allowed to grieve even those that stood to destroy you." Vat's voice is lower now, returning to his sombrer, clerical tone.
Wells nods and takes in his mentor's wisdom, before looking up at him again.
"May we pray to Mother Luna for the spirit, for it's safe return to it's home and perhaps for it's freedom from maleficent forces?"
Vat nods, "Of course, Brother. Your love for all things is admirable and Laluna would be proud."
The two bow their heads in silence for a minute or so, before returning their attention back to the world around them. Vat decides their lesson today is over and begins walking back to the monastery.
They walk together in silence for some time, Wells running through the events in their mind, Vat's voice interrupts this.

"I think you are ready for your first outing, Brother."
Wells' hair stands on end in shock but they can't help their wooly tail from wagging ever so slightly from excitement.
"Are you sure??? I've only been able to do that once?"
"You are able to defend yourself when it matters most and protect those you care about in the process. You are not liberal with your use of offensive magic. This is important," He continues "We will be able to send you on a small mission this afternoon."
"This afternoon!?" He needs time to prepare. What about food- rations?
Vat sees the calculations happening behind Wells' eyes and interrupts them.
"Don't worry, it'll be within the town. A simple day trip at most."
Wells' shoulders relax, that seems doable. Their excitement begins to build back up again, finally he's going to be able to help people.

"Father Zantho!" From beyond the trees a voice emanates and the sound of clinking armour approaches. (D4 = 3) Three town guards push their way through the foliage to reach the two clerics. Panting and out of breath, they must have just run from town and then out in search from the monastery.
"What is it?" Vat answers, his face firm in concern.
The guard in front finished catching his breath. "Down at the courthouse- There's a trial." He points in the direction of town. "But it's been interrupted, there's a big problem and they've asked for a mediator to help."
Wells and Vat look at each other and then back to the guards.
"What makes it so urgent that you had to run to find me?" Asks Vat.

The guard strands up straight. "There's this business guy, a gnome. He's asking for a huge payout from the mayor for an accident at his factory. But the accident happened because of his carelessness. He's looking to pocket the entire payout and leave none for the injured or their families. The families are getting heated and it's looking like their might be a riot." The guide sighs, exasperated by the whole situation.
Wells finds his faced scrunched up in disgust, unable to hide his distaste for the greedy.
His seething is disrupted when he feels a large hand slap him on the back, pushing him towards the guards.
"Well! Do I have the perfect guy for the job! Freshly graduated and ready to give aid."
Wells looks back up at Vat with shock and fear before looking back at the guards. The guards look between themselves with uncertainty.
"But I haven't- But-" Wells starts but Vat interrupts him. "Don't worry Wintergate, it's a simple mediation job. You'll be in and out in no time!" Vat gives the younger man a pat on the shoulders.
Wells draws and releases a shaky breath. He ultimately nods and follows the guards as they make their way back to town.

Wells and the Guards arrive at the town centre a moment too late. The riot has already started. An angry crowd swells outside of the courthouse, torches and factory equipment held up threateningly.
The guards rush away, attempting to help the remaining patrol control the crowd, but they have little effect. Wells begins to sweat, this is not what he expected as a "simple mediation job."
He meekly raises his cleric staff (a shepherd's crook) in the air. "Um.. Hello? Uh I'm here to-" His meek voice is instantly drowned out by the shouting crowd, they don't even notice him.
He approaches gingerly, trying to see above the crowd and through the doors into the courthouse, trying to lock eyes with any faculty.

He peers and cranes his neck but he can just make out the stand and the judge perched atop of it. The judge is demanding order but his voice drowns just as easily. He spots Wells and quickly demands one of the guards to his side, ordering him to bring the Cleric in.
The guards make their way out to him and usher him around to a back entrance and into the court. He is now standing in front of a crowded courtroom, between the judge, jury and the plaintiff.
He gulps.
"Wh- what do you need me for precisely?" He asks to the judge.

The judge's large horns cut a imposing figure as he stares down from his stand. "I need this riot to calm down so they proceedings can continue, please see to them."
Wells nods, his gaze resting on the shouting mass barely being contained by guards before returning his attention to the judge again. "well… there's a reason for their unrest isn't there? Surely settling the matter fairly between the parties will bring order?" Wells argues, making clear that he's already been made aware of the conflict at hand.
Judge Y'tal sighs, he massages his brow as he looks through the paperwork on his desk. "Unfortunately due to how the contracts are written.. and a few legal loopholes." He pointedly squints at Mr Nasata before turning his attention to Wells. "There isn't much I can do. It's a simple insurance pay out and there's nothing in here for the workers." He finishes, shaking his head. It's clear he wishes to pin something on the man and help out the people of his town but is limited by bureaucratic barriers.
Wells scowls at the gnome. Mr Nasata just shrugs flippantly, unsympathetic to the harm he is causing. "Just following the boss's orders, it's out of my hands."
Wells thinks for a moment. "Boss? You don't own the factory?"
"Oh I own the factory alright," Mr Nasata chimes proudly. "But we manufacture for a larger company, overseeing several workshops all over Wald. So I'm under their jurisdiction."
Wells crosses his arms, if he can't help at this level maybe he can find a pathway even higher up.
"Which company is this? And who is it exactly that you report to?"
Mr Nasata looks somewhat taken aback by the sudden, drilling questions from the soft-spoken cleric. "I don't have to tell-"
"You're under oath, Mr Nasata." The judge warns.
The gnome gestures to Wells. "But he just- What does-"
"Please answer the question."
Mr Nasata sighs.

"I report to Isra Krell, of Krell Cystal." It seems as though Mr. Nasata wasn't super interested in relaying this information. Wells squints, noticing this.
"Can we be done here?" Nasata returns his attention back to the judge who rests his head on his fist. Y'tal shrugs defeated and slams the gavel down. "Adjourned." He then turns to Wells.
"I'm sorry for dragging you into this when there was nothing to be done. But if you can break the news and try to settle the crowd outside. I feel like they will take it better from you than anyone else."
Wells nods solemnly, attempting to hide his remembered fear of the crowd. Walking forward to the double doors holding back the mass. He takes a deep breath the steel himself before gesturing to the guards to open up.
The crowd's attention turns to him. He tries to put on an air of authority and says. "Bad news, there was nothing that could be done on the judge's part." He sees the front most members of the crowd beginning to get angry, Wells raises his hands. "But! I promise I will do everything in my power to look into this and try to rectify things."

"I promise! And in the mean time if anyone is in need of healing, the monastery is always open to help." Wells adds.
"We've BEEN healed!" A voice cuts out from the back. "But while our bodies are fixed our wallets aren't! I'm behind on rent due to not being able to work." "Me too!" Another voice cuts in. More and more voices pipe up about the financial hard spots they have been put in because of the accident.
Wells raises his hands again, gesturing for calm. "I understand! I understand! I will return to my superiors and do what I can to right this wrong!" His voice finally reaching a shout to get over the crowd.
For now they seemed to have settled and begin to disperse. Quickly Wells finds his way out of the town centre and in the direction of home.

"What kind of news?" Wells asks.
The guard steps to the side, revealing an Orc woman. Athletic in build but leaning heavily on a cane, she appears angry and determined.
"It was not an accident." She says gruffly, "It was planned attack, by the company itself."
Wells eyes grow large, he looks between the guest and his mentor before settling back to the orc.
"Why was this not brought up at the hearing!? It would've-" He's interrupted. "It was thrown out." She says, standing as upright as she can on her bad leg. "For lack of evidence. But I was there, know what I saw."
Chills run down Wells neck as he hears this.
"I need help finding evidence of what it is I saw, only 1 other worker has been able to corroborate my story but is too scared to come forward. I need something tangible." She thumps her cane against the ground, emphasising her point.
Wells fumbles for a moment as he collects his thoughts, this story is growing much wilder and much scarier that it first appeared.
"B- but we're not investigators, I'm not sure how-"
NPC Name: (87 + 21) Tor + Eee

"Very right Wells," Zantho cuts in. "Tori and the guards have already sent for an investigator. But it could be days before one arrives and that could be precious time for potential evidence to be swept away. We may be simple healers but we are also helpers."
Wells lets go of the breath he didn't know he was holding. He nods.
"I understand." Wells replies, his attention returning to Tori with determination."I can help."
Out of the corner of his eyes he can see a proud smile ever so slightly grace his mentors face.
Wells looks up at the sky, it's well past sunset now. He gestures to the orc. "It's getting late, would you like to stay here for the night?"
She shakes her head. "Thank you but it's quite alright, I need to return to take care of my family. Will I see you tomorrow in town?" She continues, turning towards the guard to leave.
Wells nods in return. "Yes, we shall start the search as soon as day breaks." His newfound determination and passion for justice only balms over his fear and uncertainty for a moment. His panic starts to build up again when a familiar, heavy hand slams down on his shoulder.
"Good work today Wells!" Father Zantho boasts proudly once the guests are out of ear shot. He begins walking them into the monastery.
"B-but I didn't do anything!? I couldn't stop them from crowding, I couldn't stop the hearing I-" Zantho chuckles warmly. "But you got out there? Did you not?" A pause falls over them as Wells silently agrees. "Plus, I heard that you stopped the crowd from erupting into a full-blown riot? That's more than I could ever say," Wells looks up at him confused. "I would have joined them!!" The orc bellows with a hearty laugh, slapping the small framed Wells in the back once again, almost knocking him over.
Wells feigns a chuckle in response but he does think about what was said. I guess I did prevent a riot today… He thinks to himself.
Zantho opens the door to the dining hall. "Grab some dinner then get some rest. You got a big day ahead of you."
Wells nods gratefully, following his mentor into the heart of the building, smelling warmly of soup and bread.
End of day 1....
