author's note: This campaign is my attempt to give Mythic a proper shot. It took me a while to find my feet so Mythic veterans might notice a few errors but I eventually get the hang of it.

Wells and a mentor are in a quiet forest clearing, undergoing some combat training exercises. The mentor has found and captured a small, malevolent spirit from near by. Wells' is tasked with defeating it but finds themselves trembling in the face of even such a small, nearly harmless enemy.

Father Vat Zantho is the head priest of the local Laluna congregation. He is a towering Orc from Northern Wald. His skin is a dusty greenish grey and compliments the soft blue of the Lunian robes.
His height and tusks make for a mighty and intimidating sight, but it's quickly washed away after hearing his gentle, soothing voice. Thick with his northern accent.
He has served and taught at the sect for over forty years, and has watched Wells grow and learn the cleric craft. Now he is trying to build the young man's confidence in self defence before sending him out into the world. But it's proving harder than anticipated.
Wells tries to cast Smite, but their shivering is making it hard to aim.
WIS SPELL: [HARD]
D20: 4 + 2

The spell misses, a bright streak of light blue light strikes the ground but fizzles out before it could do any damage. Wells sighs pitifully.
"I don't think I'm capable of hurting anything, even monsters."
Father Zantho turns to him and puts a hand on his shoulder. "It's alright, we all have our strengths. I just need to know if you are able to defend yourself before sending you out into the field."
"Isn't it enough to simply block attacks? Must I bring harm?" He looks up to his mentor. Wells' shield spells and animal companion are effective, he's had a lot of experience honing those.
Vat sighs and thinks for a moment, considering the big, sad brown eyes of his trainee.

A shimmering, luminous bubble forms in front of Wells' arms. The spirit charging into it and hitting against it like glass.
Vat gathers himself and casts Element of Air to push the spirit back.

Trees bristle as Vat summons the winds from around them. Due to all the trees the effect isn't as strong as he would like but happily he sees the spirit woefully tumble back into the clearing regardless. Giving them some well needed space.
Angrily the spirit starts zooming back toward them. Wells uses this time to try cast Smite once more, now with intensified focus.
WIS SPELL:
D20: 8 + 2

Just. Once more bright blue light strikes the ground in front of them, this time with a loud crack of thunder. It lands right in front of the spirit, causing it to run right into the blast.
EFFORT:
D10: 10 + 2
=12
With a shriek and a fizzle the spirit is smote from creation.
As the dust settles the two exhale with relief. Wells only gets a moment of peace before finding himself lifted by the large Orc's arms. He struggles to breathe through the affectionate squeeze and the divine shield, unused, fizzles away also.
"You did it boy!" The high priest shouts triumphantly, now gently releasing his student to the ground. "I knew you had it in you!"
Wells collects his breath for a second time, looking over the the black mark on the ground where the spirit once was. He protected himself and his beloved mentor but he doesn't feel good about erasing something from existence. Even if that thing only sought out to harm, maybe it was just misunderstood.
Vat sees his furrowed brow and takes Wells' shoulder in his hand once again. "It's never easy to value one life above another, you are allowed to grieve even those that stood to destroy you." Vat's voice is lower now, returning to his sombrer, clerical tone.
Wells nods and takes in his mentor's wisdom, before looking up at him again.
"May we pray to Mother Luna for the spirit, for it's safe return to it's home and perhaps for it's freedom from maleficent forces?"
Vat nods, "Of course, Brother. Your love for all things is admirable and Laluna would be proud."
The two bow their heads in silence for a minute or so, before returning their attention back to the world around them. Vat decides their lesson today is over and begins walking back to the monastery.
They walk together in silence for some time, Wells running through the events in their mind, Vat's voice interrupts this.
FATE check:
Does Vat decide Wells is ready?
Likely: 10
= exceptional yes
"I think you are ready for your first outing, Brother."
Wells' hair stands on end in shock but they can't help their wooly tail from wagging ever so slightly from excitement.
"Are you sure??? I've only been able to do that once?"
"You are able to defend yourself when it matters most and protect those you care about in the process. You are not liberal with your use of offensive magic. This is important," He continues "We will be able to send you on a small mission this afternoon."
"This afternoon!?" He needs time to prepare. What about food- rations?
Vat sees the calculations happening behind Wells' eyes and interrupts them.
"Don't worry, it'll be within the town. A simple day trip at most."
Wells' shoulders relax, that seems doable. Their excitement begins to build back up again, finally he's going to be able to help people.

"Father Zantho!" From beyond the trees a voice emanates and the sound of clinking armour approaches. (D4 = 3) Three town guards push their way through the foliage to reach the two clerics. Panting and out of breath, they must have just run from town and then out in search from the monastery.
"What is it?" Vat answers, his face firm in concern.
The guard in front finished catching his breath. "Down at the courthouse- There's a trial." He points in the direction of town. "But it's been interrupted, there's a big problem and they've asked for a mediator to help."
Wells and Vat look at each other and then back to the guards.
"What makes it so urgent that you had to run to find me?" Asks Vat.
What happened at the courthouse?

The guard strands up straight. "There's this business guy, a gnome. He's asking for a huge payout from the mayor for an accident at his factory. But the accident happened because of his carelessness. He's looking to pocket the entire payout and leave none for the injured or their families. The families are getting heated and it's looking like their might be a riot." The guide sighs, exasperated by the whole situation.
Wells finds his faced scrunched up in disgust, unable to hide his distaste for the greedy.
His seething is disrupted when he feels a large hand slap him on the back, pushing him towards the guards.
"Well! Do I have the perfect guy for the job!. Freshly graduated and ready to give aid."
Wells looks back up at Vat with shock and fear before looking back at the guards. The guards look between themselves with uncertainty.
"But I have- But-" Wells starts but Vat interrupts him. "Don't worry Wintergate, it's a simple mediation job. You'll be in and out!." Vat gives the younger man a pat on the shoulders.
Wells draws and releases a shaky breath. He ultimately nods and follows the guards as they make their way back to town.

Wells and the Guards arrive at the town centre a moment too late. The riot has already started. An angry crowd swells outside of the courthouse, torches and factory equipment held up threateningly.
The guards rush away, attempting to help the remaining patrol control the crowd, but they have little effect. Wells begins to sweat, this is not what he expected as a "simple mediation job."
He meekly raises his cleric staff in the air. "Um.. Hello? Uh I'm here to-" His meek voice is instantly drowned out by the shouting crowd, they don't even notice him.
He approaches gingerly, trying to see above the crowd and through the doors into the courthouse, trying to lock eyes with any staff.
FATE Check
Does anyone see him?
50/50: 49 = yes (just)
He peers and cranes his neck but he can just make out the stand and the judge perched atop of it. The judge is demanding order but his voice drowns just as easily. He spots Wells and quickly demands one of the guards to his side, ordering him to bring the Cleric in.
